The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition. The mission of the Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising done during the previous year. Winners were selected by the judges and given Gold, Silver, or Special awards as well as Best of Show. The trophies were handed out during our awards gala on February 23, 2023.

THE JUDGES

We were fortunate to virtually host three veteran judges from across the East Coast to subjectively review your submissions. Judges were selected based on skill set, expertise in the industry and unique perspective. They were thoroughly impressed by the level of creative work submitted this year. In the end, however, what took the trophy was the coming together of strategy, original ideas and impressive execution.

cece shabazz

Memorial Health System
Brand Strategist and Creative Services Manager
Gulfport, MS

Often coined by her colleagues as the Beyonce of branding, Cece Shabazz is an award-winning Creative Director with more than 20+ years in the advertising industry. She specializes in brand building — bridging insight with smart creative strategy and diversity for a variety of industries. 

She is a recipient of the American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award for her contributions to the advertising industry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She has led talented ad agency and in-house marketing teams to numerous awards including, local, regional, and national ADDY awards.

Cece is the Brand Strategist and Creative Services Manager for Memorial Health System — Coastal Mississippi’s largest health system. She is a longtime member of AAF Mississippi Gulf Coast currently serving as club president. Cece lives in Gulfport, MS with her incredibly funny husband Gabriel. 

jessica stanford

Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America
Creative Director
North Augusta, SC

Jessica Stanford is a photographer and award-winning Creative Director from Augusta, Georgia with more than 20 years of in-house creative experience. Weirdly passionate about health care marketing, Jessica currently serves as Creative Director for the nation’s largest private physician practice dedicated to burn and reconstructive surgery.

Leveraging her educational background in business, Jessica approaches creative projects with a keen focus on supporting corporate strategy and achieving measurable results. She is a storyteller at heart and is grateful for the opportunities to witness and share the inspiring stories of the patients and healers she has met throughout her career.

Geographically southern and culturally European, Jessica talks like she belongs in the deep south but has a distinctly German approach to life. She and her husband Todd have no children and way too many cats.

JEff pappalardo

Crowley Webb
Former Executive Creative Director
Buffalo, NY

Currently, Jeff is ex-partner, Executive Creative Director at Crowley Webb in beautiful Buffalo, New York. Jeff started his career as a designer at New York Magazine in 1982 and in 1994, Jeff escaped New York City and joined Crowley Webb and Associates, becoming a partner in 2006.

His work has been recognized by The One Show, Communication Arts, Print Design Annual, Art Direction Magazine, Connecticut Art Directors Club, The Globals, American Corporate Identity, District 2 American Advertising Awards, and Buffalo American Advertising Awards. In 2006, Jeff received the Alex Osborne Award for Creativity from the Advertising Club of Buffalo.

He has served on the boards of the Ad Club of Buffalo, The Irish Classical Theatre Company, WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse Foundation, and is currently on the board of Buffalo Prep. He is a member of Leadership Buffalo, class of 2014. Jeff lives in downtown Buffalo and has two grown children, Ben and Grace, and a grandson, Wesley.
